I joined a PUG a couple of days ago for FOW, and it was one of the worst experiences. There were two Monks, a Warrior, a Mesmer, and me, a nuker (by the way, I hate playing nuker, but when America is dangerously close to losing favor and there are mostly inexperienced groups looking for people, a nuker is rarely refused). As soon as I join, the warrior pays the fee and we're off to FOW (no "rdy?" or warning whatsoever). FOW may be doable, to a point, with a group of 5, but the members had better know what they're doing. I was the second to zone in; the warrior was the first. As soon as three people are in (warrior, nuker, monk), the warrior aggros the first group. Of course, we're all still in his aggro bubble when the warrior charges in, so the baddies head straight for, and promptly kill, the monk. The mesmer dies within seconds of zoning in, and everyone is dead by the time the last monk zones in (the last monk had a running skill and almost survived, to her credit). This was, without a doubt, the worst FOW PUG I've experienced; at least I didn't lose anything except a couple of minutes of my time.

It's much better to have a group fail at the very start, then to have a group constantly die with 1 person running around and resurrecting everyone all the time.

I generally expect most PUGs to die to the first wave of skeleton etherbreakers and icehands. I mean maelstrom is such a nasty spell vs noobs

My defense against Spiteful is Cry of Frustration, Power Spike, Power Leak and Guilt.

What hexes?

Always have someone targeting one of the shadow beasts to call the casting of Spiteful Spirit so you don't remove Mark of Pain by mistake. In cases where there are two, just send in a warrior (or whatever you brought down to 'tank') to grab aggro. Although you just be having one ally take the aggro anyway.

K, they said that at the end, they didn't say anything in front except for the N/Me.
